In response to a common misunderstanding between L1 and L2 raised by BitcoinMagazine technical editor @brian_trollz, Vitalik expressed his growing reservations about the strategy of "increasing L2 complexity to simplify L1."

@brian_trollz earlier commented sarcastically on the view that "it only needs to be implemented on L2", pointing out that this ignores the basic limitations of the first-layer technology on the second-layer functions.

In response, Vitalik responded that when weighing the risk of bugs in L1 and L2, it is not clear that L2 has an advantage.
