According to a recent Gallup poll, 6% of American investors own Bitcoin. Since 2018, cryptocurrencies have gradually become popular in the mass investment market, especially among young American investors.

Gallup's Investor Optimism poll defines American investors as "adults who have invested more than $10,000 or more in stocks, bonds or mutual funds." The poll was conducted from June 22 to June 29 and found that 6% of 1,037 respondents own Bitcoin. This is an increase of 4% compared with 2018. It is mainly young male investors who have driven the surge in Bitcoin holdings.

Perception of Bitcoin Risk

The survey found that investors' concerns about Bitcoin risks have dropped from 75% in 2018 to 60% this year, a drop of 15%.

Most respondents believe that Bitcoin is very risky. The only counter-trend is that among young investors aged 18-49, only 47% believe that investing in Bitcoin is very risky.

Age and gender of Bitcoin holders

In the survey on Bitcoin holders, 13% of investors under 50 years old hold Bitcoin, while only 3% of senior investors do; in terms of gender, 11% of male respondents hold Bitcoin, while only 3% of women do.

Compared with the 2018 survey, 80% of respondents over 50 years old said they had no interest in buying Bitcoin, and 70% in 2021
, although there has been a slight progress, nocoiners still dominate among those in their 50s.

Among all those surveyed, 55% of male investors have no interest in buying Bitcoin, while female investors are 61%.

In contrast, only a few young investors in the United States are skeptical about Bitcoin. In 2018, 56% of investors aged 18 to 49 had no interest in Bitcoin, which dropped sharply to 38% in 2021.

Do you know about cryptocurrencies?

As for Bitcoin, in the 2018 survey, investors familiar with cryptocurrencies were in the minority, with 48% of young investors and 38% of male investors knowing about cryptocurrencies.

In 2021, 62% of young investors and 55% of male investors had some knowledge of cryptocurrencies. The data shows that Americans' awareness of cryptocurrencies has generally improved over the past three years.

However, senior investors and female investors have little change in their understanding of cryptocurrencies, with both knowing about cryptocurrencies at 24%.
