Yamada Denki, Japan's largest consumer electronics retailer, has partnered with the country's largest BitFlyer to pilot Bitcoin payments. Yamada Denki will initially support Bitcoin transactions in two of its stores, and plans to launch digital currency payment services throughout Japan in the future.

Yamada Denki Accepts Bitcoin

Yamada Denki, Japan's largest consumer electronics retailer, announced a partnership with BitFlyer to accept Bitcoin payments in pilot stores starting January 27. Currently, BitFlyer is the largest cryptocurrency exchange in Japan by volume, and according to an independent research report released by Japan's NTT
Docomo and investment research institution Kenkyo Investing, Yamada Denki is already Japan's largest chain of home appliances and electronics stores. The report states:

"Yamada Denki is considered Japan's largest electronics store. They sell a large number of products at reasonable prices, including computers, tablets, massage chairs, mobile phones, air conditioners, kitchen appliances, cameras and home improvement products... Most of their products and second-hand electronic products are offered to consumers at discounted prices, and the low-price strategy attracts a large number of users."

There will be more stores accepting Bitcoin in the future

Yamada Denki's four major sub-brands include: Tecc Land, Labi, Yamada Mobile, and Yamada
Outlet, which operate in the form of independent retail stores, downtown hypermarkets, and mobile electronics experience stores. According to the company's latest statistics, as of March last year, the number of its stores was 956.

In April last year, Japan's Bic Camera also announced a partnership with BitFlyer to accept Bitcoin payments, and in July last year it had covered all its stores. However, Bic Camera cannot compare with Yamada Denki in terms of the number of stores. They currently have only about 40 stores in Japan.
