In today's digital world, the threat of malware is everywhere, and the latest trends show that malicious mining software is using Google's DoubleClick advertising platform to spread and infect. This phenomenon has aroused people's concerns about network security and digital privacy. This article will explore this issue in depth, analyze how malicious mining software uses Google DoubleClick ads from a technical perspective, and reveal the dark side behind it.

In the digital advertising industry, Google DoubleClick ads have always played an important role, providing advertisers and publishers with efficient advertising and profit opportunities. However, it is this convenience that also provides an opportunity for the spread of malicious mining software. By implanting malicious code into ads, hackers can use users' computing resources for mining activities and illegally obtain benefits.

From a technical perspective, malicious mining software uses Google DoubleClick ads in two main ways: one is to implant malicious code through advertising images or links, and when users click on ads, it will trigger the operation of mining programs; the other is to take advantage of loopholes or imperfections in the advertising platform to directly inject mining scripts into the advertising system, so that users are infected without knowing it.

For example, one day, a netizen named Xiao Ming saw a seemingly ordinary Google DoubleClick ad while browsing the web. Out of curiosity, he clicked on the ad, but he didn't know that there was a malicious mining software hidden behind this simple action. Unknowingly, his computer began to become abnormally slow, the computer fan was spinning wildly, and even crashed. After professional testing, it was discovered that it was because the malicious mining software used the Google DoubleClick advertising platform to spread and infected his computer.

This is not an isolated case. Recently, similar incidents have occurred frequently, and many users have been attacked by malicious mining software, and Google DoubleClick ads have become a channel for hackers to place ads. This has aroused concerns about network security in all walks of life, and people have begun to reflect on whether the security and privacy protection mechanisms of digital advertising platforms are sound enough.

How to deal with this challenge? First, advertising platforms need to strengthen security review mechanisms to ensure that every advertisement is strictly tested to prevent the implantation of malicious code. Secondly, users should also be vigilant when browsing the web, and do not click on unknown ads at will to avoid giving hackers an opportunity to take advantage of them. The most important thing is to popularize and strengthen cybersecurity awareness. Only by making everyone aware of the importance of cybersecurity can we jointly resist the invasion of malware.

In general, the phenomenon of malicious mining software using Google DoubleClick ads has aroused people's vigilance on cybersecurity and privacy protection. Advertising platforms, users and regulatory authorities need to work together to build a safer and more reliable digital world. Only through cooperation and efforts can we resist the threat of malware, make the Internet space clearer, and let everyone who surfs the Internet enjoy safety and convenience. In the digital age, cybersecurity is a major issue that everyone should pay attention to. Let us join hands to jointly protect the clarity and brightness of this digital world.

According to a report released by cybersecurity company Trend Micro, Google's DoubleClick advertising service has been exploited by mining malware, affecting many users in Europe and Asia.

In the official blog of Trend Micro's "Security and
Intelligence", they revealed that a JavaScript-based malware CoinHive can use computer processing power to mine Monero and then spread the virus through Google DoubleClick. More importantly, mining malware like CoinHive can operate without user consent.

According to ArsTechnica, Google's DoubleClick advertising service is also used by YouTube, the world's largest video sharing service, so many YouTube users have also been affected.

According to Trend Micro's report, the CoinHive malware connects independent network miners to a private mining pool. In addition, this "malicious advertisement" also contains two different web mining scripts.

Trend Micro said:

"The affected webpages displayed legitimate ads, and then the two mining scripts secretly performed mining tasks in the background. We speculate that the attackers used these ads on legitimate websites as a strategy to target more users. DoubleClick ad traffic began to rise before January 18. By January 24, the number of Coinhive miners had begun to increase significantly."

According to the security report, once a computer is infected with the virus, 80% of its processing power will be used for mining, which will cause the device to perform poorly.

As previously reported, the digital currency mining industry has been very popular in recent months, and even companies such as oil pipeline giant Transneft have found their systems affected by malware. According to a report released last November, CoinHive has become one of the most popular malware.
