According to cyber intelligence firm Digital Shadows, more than 100 fake Libra-related domain names have been registered since the project was first announced.

Researchers at Shadows have identified more than 100 Libra-related domains created since June 18, as well as dozens more related to Facebook’s Calibra wallet.

Some sites are relatively benign—sites created by would-be entrepreneurs who believe Facebook will pay them to buy them. However, others are reportedly created for more nefarious purposes.

Digital Shadows noted in a blog post that "the vast majority of them are pretty boring -

In these cases, fake websites are created to look like legitimate websites, and the thieves behind the malicious websites are ultimately able to steal millions of dollars in crypto assets. These websites can be used to impersonate legitimate opponents or promote scams that misuse the Libra or Calibra names. Domain name registration can lead to problems similar to those that have recently occurred in Israel and elsewhere.

TLD? That's what domain codes are for. An increasingly common tactic is for criminals to register domain names using Greek, Cyrillic and other alphabet-like characters that resemble letters in the Roman alphabet, also known as homograph attacks. To the unsuspecting user, these apps look almost identical and can be difficult to identify on smaller devices like mobile phones. Examples could include replacing the lowercase letter A with the Cyrillic character "а", or replacing the lowercase letter "l" with the Turkish "I"."
