In today's digital currency market, Bitfinex Exchange, as one of the well-known trading platforms, provides users with the opportunity to trade with margin trading. Margin trading is a way of trading through borrowing and lending, which can help traders magnify their investment returns, but it also comes with certain risks. This article will explore the margin trading function of Bitfinex Exchange in depth, provide you with detailed operation guides and risk warnings, and help you trade more easily in the digital currency market.

 Introduction to Bitfinex Exchange

Founded in 2012 and headquartered in Hong Kong, Bitfinex Exchange is one of the world's leading digital asset trading platforms. The exchange is known for its high liquidity and rich trading pairs, providing traders with a variety of trading options. Margin trading is a major feature of Bitfinex Exchange, giving traders the opportunity to magnify their positions through borrowing and lending and obtain more investment returns.

 What is margin trading?

Margin trading, also known as leveraged trading, is a way of trading with borrowed funds. In the digital currency market, traders can borrow funds through margin trading in the hope of magnifying their trading returns. For example, if you conduct margin trading on Bitfinex Exchange, you can borrow a certain amount of digital assets and then use these assets to trade. If your transaction is profitable, you can get more than your own capital investment; but if you lose money, you will also face greater risks.

How to conduct margin trading on Bitfinex?

1. Register an account and complete real-name authentication: First, you need to register an account on the Bitfinex exchange and complete real-name authentication. Real-name authentication is to ensure the safety of transactions and is also a necessary step to comply with regulatory requirements.

2. Recharge funds: After registration, you need to recharge a certain amount of digital assets to your Bitfinex account. You can choose digital currencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum for recharge.

3. Select trading pair: After entering the trading page, you need to select the trading pair you are interested in. The Bitfinex exchange supports transactions between multiple digital currencies. You can choose the appropriate trading pair according to market conditions and your own needs.

4. Select leverage multiples: When conducting margin trading, you need to select the appropriate leverage multiples. Different leverage multiples will affect your trading risks and returns, so please choose carefully.

5. Place an order: After determining the trading pair and leverage multiple, you can enter the transaction quantity and price, and then place an order to trade. After confirmation, the transaction will be executed.

6. Risk Control: When conducting margin trading, be sure to pay attention to risk control. Market fluctuations may cause your position to be forced to close. In order to avoid unnecessary losses, it is recommended to set a stop loss price or reasonably control the position size.

Risks and precautions of margin trading

Although margin trading can bring higher returns, it is also accompanied by greater risks. Here are some things to pay attention to when conducting margin trading:

- Market volatility risk: The digital currency market fluctuates greatly, and prices may fluctuate violently, causing your position to lose money or even blow up.

- Leverage multiple selection: Choosing too high a leverage multiple may increase your risk exposure. It is recommended to choose carefully according to your own risk tolerance.

- Stop loss strategy: Setting a stop loss price is an effective way to control risks, and timely stop loss can help you avoid further losses.

 Conclusion

In the digital currency market, margin trading is a common trading method that can help traders magnify their investment returns. However, margin trading is also accompanied by certain risks, which requires traders to be cautious. Through the introduction of this article, I believe you have a deeper understanding of the financing transactions of Bitfinex Exchange. I hope you can operate prudently during the transaction, control risks, and obtain stable returns. I wish you smooth transactions and successful investments in the digital currency market!

When you want to trade on margin on Bitfinex, your margin wallet must have sufficient funds (you can do this from the wallet page).

To open a short position, please refer to the following steps:

Go to the trading page > select the currency pair you want to open > click "Funding" (not exchange)

Set a short order in the order form (specify quantity, order type, price)

You can further set the options for margin funding. Click the "Advanced Funding" button

Click Margin sell to complete the order (margin funding is borrowed through the system in a peer-to-peer manner. If you want to reserve margin, you can reserve margin funds manually).

When you want to close the position, click the "Close" button (you can close the short position through a long order) or place a limit long order with the same amount as the short. When the order is fully executed, the short position will be closed and the borrowed funds will be returned to the funding provider, and the profit/loss will be credited to the margin wallet at the same time.

When opening a leveraged long position, the operation is the same as above, but buy first and then sell orders.

The initial position equity is 30%. This means that you must hold at least 30% of the value of the open position in your margin lending wallet.

If you have $1,000 in your margin lending wallet, this $1,000 will be used as collateral for opening a margin position, up to 3.33 times, so the maximum position value allowed is $3,333.33.

If you only want to open a 2x position, the position value is $2,000.

When you hold $1,000, your trading balance is 1,000  (1 / 0.3) = $3,333.33.

Please note that when holding BTC as collateral, the maximum allowed position value is relatively small because: [Maximum leverage] - 0.3
[Margin trading BTC balance equivalent to USD value]. Therefore, when holding BTC as collateral, the initial equity is 33% or the margin ratio is 3.033:1

Assuming that one BTC is worth $250, and you can open a long or short position of 3333 / 250 = 13.333 BTC, the value of the position is 3333.25 (13.333  250
= 3333.25 USD). When the price starts to fall, you will receive a liquidation notice when the net value reaches 22.5% of the initial position value.

The position value is 13.333  250 = 3333.33 USD.

30% of the position value is $1,000 (this is the initial margin)

15% of the position value is $500 (this is the maintenance margin)

Your current balance is $1,000. When the position value is less than $500 (1000-500=500) {when the net value is 15% (500 USD)} the position will be liquidated.

When the position value is $2833.33, the price of selling one BTC can be calculated to be $212.5 (2833.33 / 13.33 = 212.50 USD
). Due to the need to consider interest and transaction fees, the amount may vary slightly, but $212.50 is a liquidation indicator.

Please note that the system will borrow the required funds and users need to pay interest. The interest rate is provided by the peer-to-peer liquidity platform and depends on the current quotation and demand of the fund book. You can view the current interest rate in the interest rate column in the fund page>fund book. When you open a position (long or short), the best interest rate will be automatically borrowed. (You can also reserve funds manually).

The system will use the best quote, which is the lowest available interest rate. Margin traders can set conditions for the required margin funds:

Go to the order table and click "Margin"

Click the "three vertical dots" symbol

Select "Advanced Funding Options" through the drop-down menu

The system will match the order with the conditions you set. When the borrowing period you set expires, the position will not be forcibly closed, and the system will automatically borrow the best interest rate to maintain the position.

I'll answer.
